At 22 years old, Igor Sikorsky received his first pilot’s license from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) Russian office, dated August 18, 1911. He was issued Pilot’s License No. 64. The photo on the license’s main page is of Igor Sikorsky in the S-5.
Igor Sikorsky received the following U.S. private pilot’s license on November 16, 1927, which was during the time period he started to develop amphibious fixed wing aircraft and flying boats in the United States.
Igor Sikorsky received Helicopter Pilot’s License No. 1 from the State of Connecticut on May 14, 1940. It was renewed in 1942.
On December 10, 1940, Igor Sikorsky received Helicopter Pilot’s License No. 1 from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale and the U.S. National Aeronautic Association. Note the editing to the license page to indicate the license was for “a Helicopter Pilot.”
Igor Sikorsky was a member of the National Aeronautic Association, the oldest aviation club in the United States. This Annual Sports Registration gave Igor Sikorsky permission to attempt aviation records.
